A WEEK BEFORE THE EVENT A BEAUTIFUL BOX ARRIVED IN THE POST WITH OUR TICKETS PRINTED INSIDE A BOOKLET. APPARENTLY THEY ARE HAND PRINTED IN ITALY. INSIDE THE CHIC LITTLE BOOKLET WAS ALL THE INFORMATION YOU NEEDED INCLUDING YOUR TICKET.

WE ARRIVED AT WATERLOO AT 10.30AM WHERE LARGE CROWDS OF PASSENGERS WERE ALREADY QUEUING UP TO CHECK IN AND MAKE THE MOST OUT OF FOR THE COMPLIMENTARY TEA AND COFFEE.

WHILE THE WELL DRESSED CROWD WAITED IN ANTICIPATION FOR THE TRAIN TO ARRIVE, A COUPLE OF MYSTERIES LOOKING CHARACTERS BEGAN EMERGING FROM A SIDE ROOM ON THE PLATFORM. THEY WERE ALL WEARING TICKETS AROUND THEIR NECKS, WITH KEYS TIED TO THEM? ONE CHARACTER CAME STRAIGHT OVER TO US... MR SATEEN DEVILLE... HE TOOK A LIKING TO MY HUSBAND AND OF COURSE HE WAS VERY EMBARRASSED… SO IT WAS THE PERFECT TIME FOR A PHOTO OP.

THE TRAIN THEN PULLED INTO THE PLATFORM WHERE LOTS OF CAMERAS BEGAN TO COME OUT AND WE WERE THEN ASKED TO COME THROUGH AND BOARD OUR CARRIAGE. OUR CARRIAGE WAS CALLED CYGNUS. THIS CARRIAGE WAS FROM THE 1930S AND HAD BEEN REFURBISHED IN THE 1950S AND WAS  USED AS SIR WINSTON CHURCHILL’S FUNERAL CARRIAGE.

WE ARRIVED AT OUR TABLE, BEAUTIFULLY LAID OUT WITH FINE CHINA, CUT GLASS, CRISP WHITE TABLECLOTHS, AND LIT WITH A FABULOUS DOWNTOWN ABBEY STYLE ANTIQUE LAMP.

THERE WAS A WELCOME MENU, BOOKLET ON THE HISTORY OF THE TRAIN AND MOST IMPORTANTLY THE WINE LIST! THE WAITERS THEN CAME AROUND TO INTRODUCE THEMSELVES TO US AND WE WERE THEN GIVEN SOME INFORMATION ABOUT THE MURDER MYSTERY. THE CHAMPAGNE WAS FLOWING WHEN WE HEARD A RATHER LOUD VOICE COMING THROUGH THE CARRIAGE IT WAS OUR FIRST CLUE…  A NURSE, WHO HAD JUST GOT MARRIED TO THE MURDER VICTIM.  THE PRIZE FOR SOLVING THE MYSTERY WAS A BOTTLE OF CHAMPAGNE SO OF COURSE WE WANTED TO WIN.

AS EACH CHARACTER VENTURED THROUGH OUR CARRIAGE OUR FIVE COURSE DINNER BEGAN, THE FOOD WAS DELICIOUS AND WE TRIED SOME LOVELY CIDER, PINOT NOIR AND BLANC DE BLANC WINE FROM A LOCAL KENT BREWERY CALLED HUSH HEATH ESTATE.

EVEN THE LAVATORY WAS BEAUTIFULLY DECKED OUT WITH THE MOST FABULOUS MOSAIC TILED FLOOR…. DOESN’T EVERYONE WANT TO HAVE A NOSY IN THE TOILETS?

THE TRAIN JOURNEY TOOK US THROUGH THE KENT COUNTRYSIDE AND IT WAS NONSTOP FOR JUST OVER 5 HOURS UNTIL WE RETUNED BACK TO LONDON AT 4.30PM.

IT REALLY WAS A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE AND I WOULD DEFIANTLY RECOMMENDED IT.

SO IF YOU ARE WONDERING…. WELL NO, WE DIDN’T WORK OUR ‘WHO DONE IT’ WE GOT SO WRONG, BUT I WONT REVEAL THE PLOT... YOU WILL JUST HAVE TO FIND OUT FOR YOURSELVES.
